South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) is a premier textile research organization

established in 1956 and supported by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

Headquartered in Coimbatore, SITRA serves the textile and allied industries through applied

research, testing, consultancy, and technology development. SITRA’s activities span textile

engineering, fibre and yarn processing, apparel and performance textiles, technical and medical textiles, along with quality evaluation, calibration, training, and standards support. The institute plays a key role in indigenous technology development, industry problem-solving, and policy support studies, contributing to innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness of the Indian textile sector.

One of its key initiatives is the Centre of Excellence for Medical Textiles, which focuses

on developing advanced medical textile products and solutions. The centre also offers testing, training and consultancy services to the industry.
